Economics Research Associates (ERA) was retained by the City of Georgetown to prepare a Retail Master Plan for the downtown commercial district. Georgetown, Texas, the county seat of Williamson County, is located 30 miles north of Austin. Williamson County was the fastest growing county in Texas, according to the 2000 Census. The information used to complete ERA’s analysis was provided by volunteers, store and business owners, realtors and brokers, City and County employees and others. The data was collected and verified over a period of months, and represents the best data available at the time of the study; for purposes of analysis, the study used data available until June, 2001, with selective updates to accommodate several key changes which have occurred downtown since then.
